Happy that someone understands having a single child isn't bad .. Life is so expensive today its better to have a single child and give him quality life rather than having 2 and compromising .. Have been facing a problem with my 6yr old, hoping to find a solution here .. He is a very smart n intelligent kid.. Knows all his answers orally.. Teachers are very fond of him due to his knowledge on all subjects but the issue is he hates writing .. Learning happens best thru writing n u HV to write ur exams.. But he just doesn't want to write .. Tried telling him that only if he finishes writing he wud be allowed to play or watch TV or get his favorite thing but no use.. He finds ways to keep himself busy.. Tried bringing competition by saying his Fren will score more marks but again no use.. Hoping to find a solution here n sorry for a long post .. Thanks in advance ..

Agreed, this can be very good sharing for people in dilemma single child or two children. Children also don't come to know when they grew with two kids together.

I am a mother of a single daughter. The journey so far has been a memorable one. It has been full of ups and downs. I am fine with it.

after reading this post, I am happy that I made a choice. I am happy with my single child as i am confident of raising her responsibly. Though there are some disadvantages of having a single child, but I am sure to be able to face the challenges.

I just cannot make up my mind whether to have a sibling for my only daughter. at times, i see her lonely and without friends and this makes me think for another child. Also It is not possible for me to be with her all the time. what should i do?

What parents are discussing...

More and more couples are opting to have just one child. Keep some points in mind while raising your 'only child' The child is the center of the parent's universe and hence their expectations are high. The pressure on the child to be a "super child" is immense. Learn to tone down your expectations and instead concentrate on making your child a good human being rather than a super human being! Resist the temptation to overindulge your child as this gives him the mentality that "I always get what I want", which can cause serious problems as he grows up. Encourage your child to share things with friends, cousins and show your appreciation by rewarding him with words of encouragement. The only child tends to have a strong bond with his parents, which can soon turn into dependence for everything from homework to entertainment. How do you raise your only child? Share with us!
